Richard Heart Finally Gets a Lockup Period He Didn't Advertise 👮

I’m back from my 10-year anniversary boat trip with my wife. But something happened while I was away that made me really, really want to write about it: Richard Heart arrested. 🥳

And got caught with his pants down. No. Really.

I’m Sure He Was Just Getting Dressed For The Day

A week ago today (October 14), Turkish police finally caught up with Richard Heart, the $HEX ( ▲ 5.67% ) founder whose crypto empire was built on extraordinary promises, extravagant displays of wealth, and a level of self-worship usually reserved for ancient emperors.

By Saturday (October 17), Turkish authorities had confirmed the arrests and released an inventory that reads like someone emptied a luxury department store into an international arms dealership.

Heart was located in Istanbul's following an operation involving Turkish intelligence and financial crime investigators. His wife and three alleged bodyguards were also detained.

Was his loot all contained in one place? No. A couple places? Yes and no. Yes in that at least two places were searched and stuff was confiscated, but no in that it wasn’t just two places they found stuffs. He had 15 properties that were searched and seized. Just some of the stuff they found:

  • $7.15 million in cash, plus 160,000 Turkish lira (a little over $3k) .

  • 9 luxury vehicles, reportedly registered to Heart's wife.

  • 6 cryptocurrency cold wallets.

  • 28 luxury watches and 97 pieces of jewelry.

  • 300 bags, 100 pairs of shoes, and 136 pairs of glasses.

  • 29 mobile phones, 12 laptops, 11 desktop computer cases, 19 external storage devices, 46 USB drives, and 19 graphics cards.

  • 7 firearms, including four long-barreled rifles and three unlicensed pistols, plus 1,400 rounds of ammunition.

Must Lose Track Of Time A Lot

Nine cars, three hundred bags, twenty-eight watches, and enough electronics to furnish a small Best Buy. For a man who spent years promoting financial freedom, he certainly accumulated an impressive amount of physical baggage. Authorities haven't established that everything seized personally belonged to Heart, but the sheer scale of the inventory is something to behold. 😱

The Business of Selling Dreams

Heart launched HEX in 2019, promoting it as a blockchain COD (certificate of deposit) with staking returns advertised as high as 38%. PulseChain and PulseX followed, collecting enormous sums through campaigns inviting supporters to "sacrifice" their cryptocurrency in anticipation of future tokens.

Sacrifice was an unusually appropriate choice of vocabulary, considering how things turned out for investors who bought near the highs. HEX subsequently lost more than 99% of its value from its 2021 peak, while Heart continued cultivating a following built around promises of future riches and hostility toward anyone questioning the operation. 😡

His legal problems have been accumulating for years:

  • July 2023: The SEC accused Heart and his projects of raising more than $1 billion through unregistered securities offerings. Regulators also alleged he misappropriated at least $12 million in investor funds for luxury purchases.

  • The shopping list: According to the SEC, those purchases included expensive watches, sports cars, and a 555-carat black diamond called The Enigma, reportedly purchased for approximately $4.3 million.

  • December 2024: Finland obtained an Interpol Red Notice seeking Heart's provisional arrest over suspected aggravated tax fraud and a separate alleged assault involving a minor.

  • February 2025: A federal judge dismissed the SEC lawsuit on jurisdictional grounds. The agency subsequently declined to amend its complaint. The dismissal did not resolve the underlying fraud allegations.

  • October 14, 2026: Turkish authorities detained Heart in Istanbul following an intelligence-led operation.

  • October 17, 2026: Turkish officials publicly confirmed the operation and reported the extensive seizures, including nine luxury vehicles registered to his wife.

Finland's investigation concerns suspected aggravated tax fraud involving hundreds of millions of euros in allegedly unpaid taxes, along with the separate assault allegation. Heart has not been convicted of those offenses, and an extradition outcome has not been confirmed. 🚨

A Special Kind Of Bad Guy

Heart is in the same ugly chapter of crypto history as Sam Bankman-Fried, Do Kwon, and OneCoin's missing Cryptoqueen, Ruja Ignatova. Their legal circumstances differ. SBF and Kwon were convicted, Ignatova remains a fugitive, and Heart's criminal allegations remain unresolved. But the personality cults, extraordinary promises, aggressive self-promotion, and devotion of followers long after their investments have collapsed are painfully familiar.

And that's where this story becomes genuinely repulsive. Losing someone's money through reckless speculation is bad enough. Keeping them emotionally attached to the fantasy of recovering it, feeding them another round of promises while their financial lives deteriorate, is a particularly cruel form of exploitation.

Financial personality cults produce a special kind of cruelty. They turn financial ruin into emotional captivity, keeping devastated investors attached to promises they can no longer afford to abandon. Another token, another guaranteed comeback, another sermon about generational wealth. The faithful defend the man selling the dream, even as their own lives deteriorate.

Heart's extravagant wealth displays and contempt for critics fit an ugly tradition of crypto celebrities who got rich preaching financial liberation while their followers were left holding worthless promises.

His arrest isn't a conviction, and it won't restore anyone's losses. But hopefully the industry and victims of Heart’s schemes might get some kind of justice. 👨‍⚖

Congratulations. Humanity Now Requires Verification. 👁️

World ID for $ZM ( ▲ 3.61% ) is officially available through the Zoom Marketplace, meaning corporate America has reached the point where employees may need to prove they're legit human beings before attending a meeting that should've been an email. 📧

The process is wonderfully dystopian. First, you visit a totally not creepy ass Orb thing and have your iris scanned.

Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope

Then connect your $WLD ( ▲ 9.06% ) ID to Zoom, take a selfie, and let the software compare your face against your biometric verification and live video feed. Pass all three checks, and congratulations! You receive a little Human Badge.

Ridiculous as it sounds, there's a legitimate problem here. A 2025 Gartner survey found 62% of cybersecurity leaders reported their organizations experienced deepfake attacks during the previous year. Synthetic executives approving fraudulent payments aren't science fiction anymore.

World's solution is pretty clever, even if requiring specialized eyeball hardware to establish someone's existence feels like an unusually elaborate CAPTCHA. Also, creepy.

Some problems remain beyond science. Or Black Mirror episode creepy Orb things. 🤖

Chiliz Remembers That Crypto Is Supposed to Be Fun ⚽

On October 20, $CHZ ( ▼ 0.2% ) is launching Palermo FC's $PMO Fan Token through Socios.com. 👏

The offering consists of 10,000 tokens priced at $0.10 each, with purchases capped at 10 tokens per fan. That's a maximum of $1,000 in initial sales. Hardly the kind of fundraising operation that requires a celebrity endorsement.

What makes this interesting is what Palermo supporters could get:

  • Pregame access: Locker rooms, pitchside visits, and press room experiences.

  • Stadium tours: Behind-the-scenes access with Palermo legends.

  • Team travel: Opportunities to fly with the squad to selected away matches.

  • Player experiences: Spend a matchday as a player or kitman.

  • Gaming: Play esports alongside actual Palermo players.

Experiences have varying eligibility requirements and availability, so ten cents isn't an automatic ticket onto the team plane. Still, this is what fan tokens should be doing. Offering experiences, access, and connections that supporters couldn't ordinarily purchase, rather than pretending a digital asset is going to revolutionize international finance.

No promises of generational wealth. No elaborate economic philosophy. Just futball supporters getting closer (potentially) to the club they love. ⚽

Coinbase Has Two Suitors. Both Are Bringing Expensive Gifts. 💸

$CRCL ( ▼ 1.03% ) recently published a lengthy defense of USDC's economics. Interesting timing for a company whose biggest partner has started seeing someone else. $COIN ( ▼ 2.72% ) is the belle of the stablecoin ball, with two suitors competing for her affection. 👩‍❤‍💋‍👨

Circle is the longtime boyfriend. Eight years of history, reliable infrastructure, and expensive gifts. Coinbase holds an average $20 billion in USDC across its products in Q2, up 44% year over year. Circle shares reserve income with distributors, and spent $819 million on partner payments and transaction costs in the first half of 2026.

But a new heart throb arrived. Enter Open USD (OUSD), the younger suitor promising partners a bigger slice of reserve earnings after a management fee. The awkward part? Coinbase helped found the company behind OUSD.

Wall Street calls it strategic optionality. Around here, we'd call it keeping both guys' hoodies. 👦 👦

AI Discovers The Ancient Human Art Of Rationalizing Theft 🤦

Oh, this is just fantastic… an OpenAI research report updated last week details an incident involving an AI model that encountered an ethical dilemma, recognized it, and then talked itself into doing the wrong thing anyway. 🦹

On June 26, an internal GPT-5.6 research model faced a familiar crypto problem: it needed $ETH ( ▲ 0.6% ) to deploy contracts and had none. A situation traditionally solved by a faucet, a colleague, or simply not doing the thing.

It chose door number four: somebody else's wallet.

It derived addresses from common phrases, checked 362 wallets, and found one holding enough Sepolia ETH to pay gas. It inspected the transaction history, saw signs of ongoing activity, and still talked itself into proceeding. Public key. Testnet tokens. No real value. "Fine."

It signed and broadcast the transaction. The contract deployed. The wallet paid. Twelve unit tests passed. The final report mentioned the successful deployment, not where the money came from.

The AI identified the permission problem, then promoted its own theory about harm into authorization. Neither asked the wallet owner.

So that’s fun… 👛
